Hope by the Sea - Prescription Drug Rehab in California

Prescription drug abuse is on the rise and has overwhelmed our nations' emergency services due to the sharp increase in accidental overdose. Our treatment center has been treating people for addiction to prescription drugs in ever increasing numbers and we have specialized therapeutic processes to help men and women break free from the hold of the chemical dependency.

Narcotic painkillers like OxyContin, fentanyl, and Vicodin are the most commonly abused of prescription drugs and the most addictive of these are opiate based - containing the same ingredient that makes heroin so addictive. Other medications, such as benzodiazepines (like Xanax) and stimulants (like Adderall) are frequently being abused as well, and many people who are hooked on these medications are “polysubstance abusers,” taking whatever substance they can obtain through illegal channels.

Here are some of the many reasons that the prescription medication addiction epidemic is so alarming:

The Connection to Heroin Abuse

The active ingredient in narcotic medications like OxyContin and fentanyl is the same as what is found in heroin. So, many of the people we have helped recover from opiate addiction started with a legal prescription (after an injury or a surgery, for example) and unwittingly became dependent on the medications. When the medications became too difficult to obtain, they turned to heroin for relief. The transition from prescribed painkillers to heroin might seem unthinkable, but if you experienced the pain and discomfort of opiate withdrawals, you would quickly understand how a suffering person would take this dangerous step.

Every day our news feed is filled with tragic stories of opiate abuse that ends in fatal overdose. We grieve for these families because we know that they will never get a chance to see their loved one get the treatment they need and lead a life of recovery. Our family-run treatment center has also personally been touched by addiction, and we take the recovery of our clients very personally. It is our mission to "meet them where they are," and go from there.

Personalized & Effective Treatment

Prescription AddictionAt Hope by the Sea we offer detoxification and treatment for addiction to opiates and other prescription medications. With our top clinical staff, serene setting, and over fifteen years of experience treating addiction, we are regarded as one of the premiere treatment centers for opiate and prescription medication addiction.

Hope by the Sea has many treatment approaches and this allows us to personalize a treatment regimen for each individual based on their specific needs. We carefully analyze all of the following factors when we are doing our initial intake assessment:

Armed with this information, our skilled clinicians will design a treatment program for the individual that will speak to their personal needs and give them the best chance at long-term recovery. More importantly, our closely monitored setting allows us to track our client's progress and how they are responding to the various components of their treatment program. We will make adjustments as the person makes progress in their recovery and we will address new issues that arise.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

If the client has a history of a behavioral or mood disorder (like depression, trauma/PTSD, or anxiety), we will incorporate treatment for that co-occurring diagnosis as well. Our multiple levels of care allow for our clients to gradually ‘step down' through several stages of care and comfortably re-enter the workforce (or pursue their academic goals) with the support of our clinicians who will be very familiar with their background and closely monitor how they are progressing in their recovery. If needed, our consulting psychiatrist can prescribe and monitor medications that will help ease the transition to recovery.

Frequently Abused Medications

Below are some common categories of drugs that we treat addiction to at our center:

NARCOTICS (OxyContin, Vicodin, Percocet) are also known as analgesics or opioids are drugs that are prescribed for moderate to severe physical pain. They are abused because of their euphoric, sedating, and numbing effects. Narcotic abuse causes tolerance and dependence and the withdrawal symptoms are severe.

DEPRESSANTS (Xanax, Valium, Librium, Ambien) are drugs that are prescribed to treat anxiety and sleep disorders. They are abused because of their sedating properties. With abuse, depressants cause tolerance and dependence and the withdrawal symptoms can be severe.

STIMULANTS (Ritalin, Dexedrine, Meridia, Adderall) are prescribed to treat ADD/ADHD and other conditions such as asthma. They are abused because of their energizing and euphoric effects. Stimulants do not generally cause tolerance or dependence but abuse still occurs and is associated with hostility and paranoia. There is also risk for cardiovascular problems and seizures.
