Hope by the Sea, California Rehab Reviews

To 'Hope By The Sea,' Drug Rehab, California

(Penny, Ernie, Cindy, Sandy, Danny, Renee, Jose, Karl, Jill, Leslie and Dr. Glass)

For those of you sitting at your computer, in a state of confusion and desperation, staring at these names, you just see names.

I look at those names and see loving, caring, honest, compassionate, highly experienced people who actually perform miracles by saving lives.

Here's my story:

My wife had struggled with alcohol for her entire life while denying that there was a problem. She was in and out of recovery meetings for over a decade but had difficulty connecting to any recovery program. While not drinking and not in recovery, she cross addicted to cocaine.

On a Saturday night, she left for dinner at 7 PM and then vanished. I found her at 4 AM at the largest drug dealer's house in Phoenix.

This "man," and his drugs, were fully prepared to commit a murder that night by killing my wife and my wife's disease was going along for the ride.

My wife was completely incoherent and on death's doorstep.

I initially checked her into a facility in Los Angeles. During the admitting process, I had uncomfortable feelings about the people in charge and the facility itself. I left her there overnight, went back to my hotel room and searched the internet in a complete state of exhaustion and desperation until 6 AM when I came across the 'Hope By The Sea' website.

The "Hope By The Sea" facility was started by a loving mother and father who had experienced years of the horror and destruction of addiction in their young son. (Their story is fascinating and I highly recommend viewing it on their website.)

At 7 AM, I called 'Hope By The Sea' praying that someone would answer. I am not a religious man but there is no doubt in my mind that my prayer was answered. Penny, the owner the facility, picked up the phone and talked to me for what seemed like hours. I felt a warmth from her that I hadn't felt in years from anyone.

I immediately got in my car and drove an hour and a half to 'Hope By The Sea' in San Juan Capistrano. Penny met me and showed me both their living accommodations and recovery facilities. It was all extremely clean, bright, very organized and absolutely beautiful. She introduced me to her family and several staff members who couldn't have been more receptive and hospitable. She also introduced me to a gentleman who had spent time at 'Hope By The Sea' recovering from an addiction to cocaine, who had flown back from the East Coast to celebrate a sobriety birthday with the staff. He was glowing and openly grateful for his new life.

I drove back to Los Angeles feeling calm for the first time in a decade. I picked up my wife from her "jail cell" recovery facility, and immediately returned to 'Hope By The Sea.'

And this is where the story really begins.

I am almost at a loss for words trying to describe the gift that 'Hope By The Sea' gave both my wife and I. They gave us our lives back. My wife has been completely clean and sober since the moment she walked through the doors of 'Hope By The Sea.' She has an entirely different understanding of her disease and continues to work her recovery program daily. She has chosen to change the people, places and things from her past that contributed to her disease and now surrounds herself with positive people who have years of successful sobriety. She is an even more incredible woman than the woman I first fell in love with before her disease took her away.

'Hope By The Sea' provided her with knowledge and tools that she implements on a daily basis to keep herself clean and sober, healthy, productive, communicative, peaceful and happy for the first time in her life. And she is alive.truly alive and glowing.

And to Dr. Glass, it is with my deepest and most heartfelt appreciation that I can say that your knowledge, guidance, approach and expertise is nothing short of absolutely magnificent. Additionally, Dr. Glass provided information to help me understand, start to heal from, and deal with my own codependency which contributed to my wife's fall into the abyss.

I can't say enough, or show enough gratitude, to the people from 'Hope By The Sea.'

However, I will say this for those of you reading this letter who feel lost, confused, exhausted, angry, disappointed, embarrassed, guilty, fearful, hopeless, desperate and searching for help.In my humble opinion, 'Hope By The Sea' is a miracle and as close as I have ever come to experiencing heaven on earth.

'Hope By The Sea,' I simply can not thank you enough.

I will keep my last name anonymous but welcome the facilitators at 'Hope By The Sea' to give my phone number to anyone who would like to call me to verify the authenticity of this letter and further discuss our incredible and joyous experience.

Dear Cyndie,

I appreciate you and all you did for me while I was at Hope By The Sea. Thank you for your warm hugs and gentle smiles. You treated me with dignity and gave me the hope that I could make it. Thank you especially for putting me in the executive house. Living there was as therapeutic as the program itself. It was quiet, my roommates were incredible, and Stacey made the house a home. It was truly a privilege staying there. It really contributed to my recovery. And I am grateful. You are a marvelous addition to the staff at Hope By The Sea. I love the warmth you radiate. It's obvious that all the staff respects and adores you. Thank you for one of the best experiences of my life. I have hope now!

In Love and Gratitude,
T.S.
